With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?

I was in Toronto. I still remember feeling the collective anxiety and uncertainty everywhere as the news first began unfolding.

How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?

I had been working on some new songs here and there, but once the pandemic hit––after the initial shock of everything had settled a bit––I suddenly had all this concentrated time available to work on music.

What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?

I’ve enjoyed writing and recording at home, as well as listening to a lot of great, new music. It’s clearly a privilege to have been able to spend time in this way, as this has been such a challenging period for so many people and devastating for some.

The biggest support to my mental health has been through meditation and yoga, dancing on my own (which inspired my new song), exercise and eating well. I’m especially grateful to have connected virtually with my meditation community, friends and family throughout these times.

How are dealing with the Covid fifth wave? Have things locked down again in your region? Have you had to cancel gigs, tours, etc.? Are things reopening & restrictions are lifting in your region? Have you booked any new gigs, tours, etc.? What are your plans for 2022?

I haven’t been focussed on live gigs. Right now, I’m enjoying the creative process and working from my home studio. I hope to share more new music with everyone in the upcoming year.

Favourite Starlite Room moment?

I never got to see the original Starlite Room, but I’ve loved discovering so many wonderful musicians through this series & the Sessions’ Concert. Thank you to Eric Alper for introducing me to the amazing work you all do to support artists.

Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?

Take a moment each day to recall what you’re grateful for, offer kindness and compassion to yourself and others and stay safe.
